Toyota Avanza was first
launched during the Gaikindo Auto Expo 2003. The name "Avanza" comes
from Italian: Avanzato, which means "improvement". Avanza was then
positioned as a cheap MPV from Toyota. Therefore since the inaugural presence,
in the first year of Avanza immediately sold 100,000 units.
Several times already
Avanza undergo the process of evolution. At the end of 2006, PT Toyota Astra
Motor (TAM) introduced New Avanza as the first facelift model. Changes are on
the front and rear view, the addition of accessories, as well as the introduction
of new engine VVT-i variable valve setting technology for all types.
Then at the end of the
same year also launched type S which is the most complete version of the Toyota
Avanza with a capacity of 1,500 cc VVT-i engine. Some features that do not
exist in other types of rear parking sensors, ABS braking technology and
15-inch alloy wheels attached to the Avanza type S. 1500 cc VVT-i engine used
by this type S has the exact same specifications with the Toyota Rush. In New
Avanza S type is also for the first time Toyota provides two options of
transmission, manual and automatic.
The overall design
change (full model change) was done next by TAM in October 2011 which marked
the start of the second generation Toyota Avanza. This new model is known as
the All New Avanza. Then on the same occasion also introduced a new variant
Veloz as the highest type of Avanza replaces the type S. Veloz comes from the
English language, Velocity which means speed. On the All New Avanza all types
come with manual and automatic transmissions.
Then in June 2014,
Toyota added Avanza lineup by presenting Avanza Luxury as the most luxurious
variant of the cheapest MPV from Toyota. Some of the differences are additional
accessories both in the exterior and interior.

The major facelift
version of the second generation Avanza comes later in August 2015 with the
name Grand New Avanza and Grand New Veloz. Although facelift but a lot of
difference is offered both from the exterior, dashboard layout, instrument
panel, until the cabin is made more quiet and the use of technology Dual VVT-i
engine. In this latest model also introduced Veloz variants that use 1.300cc
engine.
